This concise but complete little film is so well produced that it's difficult to believe it was made as a university graduation project. The story revolves around a product called Sight (also the name of the film), which is like a very advanced mobile phone that people have inside their head, so that all the activities in their normal lives can be augmented with games. The central character is a man who works as an engineer for the Sight company. We follow him as he is guided by Sight to make the perfect meal, learn the constilations, then finally seduce a beautiful woman on a perfect date. Along the way, his date asks if it is true that the Sight engineers can use Sight to manipulate people's minds. He denies this, of course, but...
Shave It is a very visually pleasing 3D animation from 2012. The plot involves an ape who finds a shaver in some rubbish from the humans who are mowing down his jungle. He shaves off all his hair, goes to join the humans in the city, and works his way up to the top of the ladder. However, once wealthy and powerful, he realises that the excitement and satisfaction has gone from his life, so he decides to turn things around.
I love the use of highly saturated colours in this short film. Their vibrancy, along with the constant motion and quick story, make this feel like a psychedelic dream.

This little creation caught my eye for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it won the BAFTA for best short film of 2014, and, secondly, it is one of five short films created from the same script. The scrip was written by Oscar winner Geoffrey Fletcher, and contained nothing but the words spoken by the two characters, so each of the five short films, believe it or not, has a completely different story.
In Room 8 a prisoner arrives in his new cell and meets his cellmate. On the bed there is a box that the cellmate tells him not to open, but he opens it anyway and inside he finds a miniature model of the cell. However, it's not just a model. When he puts his hand inside, a large hand comes in through the ceiling of the cell!
The number 8 in the title actually refers to infinity. This is because the cell is inside a bigger cell, which is inside a bigger cell, et cetera, et cetera, ad infinitum. It is enjoyable after watching the short film to read the comments on Youtube. People are discussing different ideas about the philosophy of the film. Also, if you want to watch the other four films, their names are: Concrete, The Mrs, Crab and Water Song.

For me, the best thing a short film can do is inspire you with some idea that makes you think for the rest of the day, and that is exactly what this little number did. I called to my
